A new contribution to the site of our friends Yvonne and Graham

If you would like an interesting day on a Steam Train especially with children, we recommend the trip Graham and l did in July 2011.

We drove to Anduze which took about an hour, it is North of Montpellier, near Ales .

You can park the car in the station car park for free and we caught the 11.30 train to St Jean-du-Gard.

We thought we would get better views in the open carriage behind the train ( wrong ) we both had white clothes on and the train entered the tunnel after 5 mins from the station and the tunnel was 1/2 mile long, so you can imagine what we looked like when we came out the other end , we were covered in soot !!!!!!!!!

The scenery along the route was stunning as it is in the Cevennes hills ,we travelled over many viaducts and as it was high up we were able to see great views .On the way you pass through the Bamboo Centre and you can get off to visit this and then catch the next train to St Jean-du-Gard .

On arriving at St Jean-du-Gard which is at the end of the line, we walked about 10 mins into the town and found a very nice Hotel /restaurant with a large patio and had a good lunch there.

We then walked back to the station and caught the 2.30 pm train back to Anduze .This time we travelled in a closed carriage.

The journey on the train is about an hour, it was a lovely day out and something a bit different.

Si vous souhaitez passer une journée intéressante sur un train à vapeur, en particulier avec les enfants, nous recommandons le voyage que Graham et moi avons fait en Juillet 2011.

 Nous sommes allés à Anduze ce qui a pris environ une heure de trajet, c'est au nord de Montpellier, près d'Alès. Vous pouvez garer la voiture dans le parking de la gare, c'est gratuit.

Nous avons pris le train de 11h30 pour Saint-Jean-du-Gard, nous avons pensé que nous aurions une meilleure vue dans la voiture ouverte derrière le train (mauvaise idée!!) nous avions tous deux des vêtements blancs et le train est entré dans un tunnel à 5 mn de la gare et le tunnel faisait 833m de long, donc vous pouvez imaginer à quoi nous ressemblions quand nous sommes arrivés à l'autre extrémité, nous étions couverts de suie !!!!!!!! !

Le paysage le long du parcours était superbe car il se déroule dans  les monts des Cévennes, nous avons passé de  nombreux viaducs et, de haut, nous avons pu voir de superbes panoramas. Sur le chemin vous passerez par la Bambouseraie, vous pouvez descendre la visiter et ensuite de prendre le prochain train pour St Jean-du-Gard. En arrivant à St Jean-du-Gard qui est à la fin de la ligne, nous avons marché environ 10 minutes dans la ville et a trouvé un très bel hôtel-restaurant avec une grande terrasse où nous avons bien mangé. Nous avons ensuite marché jusqu'à la gare et pris le train de 14h30;

Retour à Anduze. Cette fois, nous avons voyagé dans une voiture fermée. Le voyage en train dure environ une heure, cela a  été une belle journée et quelque chose d'un peu différent.
